Our Houses: Building Bonds Beyond the Classroom

At The British School Bali, belonging starts with a House. Every week, our students pull on their House colours and head outdoors to play, cheer and work together, building friendships that reach far beyond their own classroom walls. Our House system is one of the ways we nurture teamwork, resilience and the social skills that help children thrive.

Every student is assigned to a House when they join the school, and our teachers belong to Houses too. This means each House is a true community of its own, made up of children from different year groups alongside the adults who guide and cheer them on. From their very first week, students know they are part of something bigger, with a team that will always have their back.

Each week during Outdoor Learning, the Houses come together for team-building games and challenges. Because every House includes students from different classes, older and younger children find themselves side by side, planning tactics, passing the ball and solving problems as one team. Older students step up as leaders and role models, while younger ones grow in confidence as they discover their voice within the group.

One of the highlights of every session is watching the teamwork unfold. Students learn to listen to one another, take turns, share ideas and encourage teammates who are finding a challenge tricky. When a game doesn't go their way, they pick themselves up, cheer each other on and try again, showing the kind of resilience that will serve them well inside and outside the classroom.

The laughter, high-fives and House chants that echo across the field are proof of just how much fun learning together can be.

Our House system is a wonderful reminder that we are stronger together. By playing, competing and celebrating alongside friends of all ages, our students build lasting bonds across the whole school, grow in confidence, and learn what it truly means to be a supportive teammate, and perhaps a few future leaders are discovering their strengths along the way.
