KARTINI DAY

On Tuesday, 21st April, The British School of Bali came together to celebrate Kartini Day. This is a meaningful occasion dedicated to honouring the legacy of Raden Ajeng Kartini, one of Indonesia's most beloved pioneers of women's rights and education. It was a day filled with colour, pride, inspiration and a deep sense of community.

The celebration began with a school assembly where students and staff reflected on the remarkable life and history of Kartini herself. Born in 1879, Kartini was a visionary who championed the rights of women at a time when access to education and opportunity was very limited. Her letters, her courage, and her unwavering belief in equality have left a lasting impression on generations of Indonesians. On this day, we share her story to our students.

One of the highlights of the day was our mini fashion show, where students proudly showcased kebaya and batik, which are traditional Indonesian attires rich in cultural significance and artistry. The colours, patterns and elegance on their attire were all very stunning. It was a joyful moment that united our community.

Kartini Day was also a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the values she stood for, such as courage, equality, education and compassion. By learning about her journey and discussing the women who inspire us today, our students were encouraged to think about the world they want to help build, and the role each of them plays in it.

The day beautifully reflected the warm, inclusive spirit of our school. We are proud to raise students who approach history with curiosity, celebrate culture with joy, and carry forward the values of respect and empowerment in everything they do.
