World book day

At The British School of Bali, we believe that reading is one of the most powerful ways children develop imagination, creativity, and confidence. World Book Day provided a wonderful opportunity for our whole primary community to celebrate the joy of books and highlight the importance of reading in a fun and memorable way.

One of the most exciting parts of the day was seeing the school filled with colourful book character costumes. Dressing up allows children to step into the world of their favourite stories, helping them form deeper connections with the characters and books they love. It also encourages pupils to talk about the stories behind their costumes, naturally developing their communication skills and enthusiasm for reading.

The celebrations were made even more special by the teachers joining in the fun. The primary staff dressed as the crayons from the much-loved story The Day the Crayons Quit, which brought plenty of smiles and laughter across the school. When teachers participate alongside the children, it reinforces the message that reading is something everyone can enjoy and value.

Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of creative, book-inspired activities. Children enjoyed bookmark making, designing colourful creations to accompany their future reading. They also explored their artistic skills by designing their own book front covers, thinking carefully about how illustrations and titles can capture a reader’s attention.

Creative writing and performance also played a key role in the day’s learning. Pupils experimented with poem writing, which later inspired drama activities, allowing the children to bring their words to life through movement and expression. Another highlight was creative writing inspired by a “story in a jar,” where pupils used imaginative prompts to invent their own unique stories.

The sense of community was especially evident during reading buddy sessions, where older pupils shared stories with younger classes. In Orchid Class, the children listened carefully as Jasmine read to them, creating a calm and magical moment where stories were enjoyed together.

World Book Day at The British School of Bali was a joyful celebration of storytelling, creativity, and the power of books. Through dressing up, sharing stories, and engaging in imaginative activities, our pupils were reminded that reading can open doors to endless adventures and new ideas. It was a wonderful day that celebrated not only books, but the shared love of learning within our school community.
